Forum Topic: How Long Does Propecia Take to Work?

Posted by: HealthyHairHunter

Hey everyone,

I've been prescribed Propecia (finasteride) to help with hair loss. I'm curious about how long it takes for the medication to start showing results. My doctor said it's a slow process, but I can't seem to get a clear timeline. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it take for you guys?

Thanks in advance!

Hi HealthyHairHunter,

I started on Propecia about 6 months ago and I can honestly say the first three months were pretty much nothing noticeable. However, around the fourth month, things started to look up a bit. It's important to give it time since everyone’s body reacts differently.

Good luck with your journey!

Hello HealthyHairHunter,

I'm a dermatologist and I often get this question from my patients. Propecia typically takes between 3-6 months to start showing results, but full effects can take up to a year or more. It’s crucial to be patient and consistent with the medication.

If you notice no improvement after six months, it would be wise to consult your doctor again for an evaluation. Sometimes additional treatments might be necessary.

Hope this helps!

Thanks DrSmoothie! That gives me a better idea of what to expect. I'll make sure to stick with it and see how things go over the next few months.

@BaldNoMore, thanks for sharing your experience too. It’s good to hear from someone who has actually gone through this journey!
